2011 Blog!
Here's our 2011 news ... old news!!
The nights are drawing in! ... 22 September 2011
It seems very strange, all of a sudden the nights are drawing in
really quickly – the chucks and ducks are tucked up by 7.30pm …
bless!
We've had a really good summer – I don't understand how or where the reports of "the worst summer since 1993" have come from. Here in the Peak District we have had glorious weather with many weeks without rain ... we have actually had brown grass, unheard of in these parts.
We have also had bumper crops of raspberries, apples, salad, and the best sweet peas I've ever grown – the cottages have reaped the benefit of these fragrant wonders. Not to mention a bumper crop of lovely guests!! been very busy – thank you all.
There is still some Availability in early December for those who
would like a pre-Christmas break - our cottages will be dressed for
Christmas, this year we are offering a glass of mulled wine or a
glass of Blakelow Damson Gin on arrival … hic.
Chatsworth, Haddon and Kedleston Hall and Houses will also be open with seasonal events, carols by candlelight and the like … give me a call and we’ll tell you more.
Lapsed blogging! ... 27 June 2011

Pooh,
piglets and other bicycles!
I feel I should be starting this blog in confession style!
Forgive me it has been 3 months since my last blog…. Truth is I have been so busy with guests, chucks, ducks, garden and of course our Blakelow piggies.
Yes, we have pigs and yes we have given names to our happy hogs ...
(we were advised not to, especially as they 'should' be going to
market) I have to say they are brilliant, very friendly, very funny
and very mischievous - they never fail to make me smile whenever I
see them... they are Tyson (he's an ear biter) Nellie Fatlardo
(she's a singer) and Pooh (pictured alone left ... and enough said about that one!!) they have
settled in really well, they had me trained very quickly!!!
We also have 2 electric bicycles for guests to hire, you do still have to pedal but they make getting up and down our Peak District hills a lot easier, guests can hire them for an hour, ½ day, or full day … we even supply the helmets.
They have a battery and can travel for about 35 miles on a full charge… very clever.
Self Catering Holidays are never boring … not if I can help it!
So… am I forgiven for my lapse in blogging?
Good
news! ... - 4 February 2011
Our Blakelow Bees have made it through the winter, Sue came over on Sunday to feed them some fondant – just to keep them going for the next month or so and they were all OK … we danced a gig with excitement.
Plans are forging ahead for our first Blakelow piglets … so by the end of the year our guests will be able to have Blakelow bacon, eggs and sausages for breakfast you can’t get fresher than that!!
Bookings are coming in thick and fast at the moment, especially for late summer, Christmas and New Year … seems everyone is looking to stay in the beautiful Peak District this year.
We have quite a few guests coming to stay from Germany too … I shall have to be learning to sprechen sie Deutsch.
